Best of luck!

The NHS has invested heavily in digital systems, from electronic patient records to the platforms and infrastructure that underpin modern care. The 10 Year Health Plan is clear that the priority now is not only new technology but getting far greater value from what is already in place: improving adoption, making systems work together, and turning data into better decisions and more productive ways of working.

The value of any technology depends on how well the problem it addresses is articulated and how effectively and securely it is used. The strongest partnerships are clear about the use case, whether that is driving adoption of an electronic patient record, improving the return on an existing platform, joining up systems or automating high-volume processes, and can point to a defined outcome rather than technology for its own sake.

This award will recognise a partnership between a technology provider and one or more NHS organisations that has optimised the effectiveness of technology the NHS already has, to improve care, productivity or efficiency. The focus is on getting more from existing systems, such as an EPR or other deployed platform, rather than the initial build of something new; partnerships centred on developing and implementing a new system or software should enter Best Technology Partnership with the NHS. Judges will be looking for a clearly defined problem, secure and well-adopted use, and measurable benefit for patients, staff or services.

Eligibility

  • Open to technology providers, systems integrators and other private sector organisations working in partnership with one or more NHS organisations to optimise technology already in place.
  • The deliverable should be improving the effectiveness of existing technology, such as EPR optimisation, improving the return on a deployed platform, system integration or automation of high-volume processes, rather than the initial development of a new system; new-build solutions should enter Best Technology Partnership with the NHS.
  • Entries must demonstrate a clearly defined problem and how technology was adopted and optimised to deliver a measurable outcome.
  • Evidence must relate to work delivered within the past two years up until the awards entry deadline.

Ambition

The challenge and context within which your project, person or organisation is set alongside your goals and targets whether quantitative or qualitative, and how this aligns with national priorities.

  • Describe the problem the partnership set out to solve and articulate the use case clearly, such as improving adoption of an EPR, getting more from an existing platform or automating a high-volume process.
  • Explain how the work aligns with NHS priorities for productivity and getting greater value from existing digital investment.
  • Set out the goals agreed and the outcome the technology was expected to deliver.

Collaboration

The stakeholders’ involvement in co-designing and delivering the project. How have patients, staff at all levels, communities and other parties worked together to realise the outcomes?

  • Describe how the technology provider and NHS partners worked together to optimise the technology securely.
  • Explain how staff were trained and supported so adoption was high and disruption low.
  • Provide evidence of joint working through optimisation and review.

Impact

The measurable benefits delivered to patients, staff, your organisation or the wider system. Provide data and evidence showing improvements to outcomes, quality, access, equity or efficiency.

  • Provide measurable evidence of the outcome achieved, such as higher system adoption, capacity released, processes automated or better use of data.
  • Share before-and-after data, particularly in areas of high volume or repetitive activity.
  • Demonstrate benefit for patients, staff and value for money.

Scale

How your work has been shared, adopted or replicated beyond your immediate team or organisation. This includes dissemination through publications, presentations, toolkits, partnerships or inspiring similar initiatives elsewhere.

  • Explain how the approach has been scaled, standardised or integrated more widely.
  • Describe the partner's role in enabling wider rollout.

Sustainability

The potential for the project/work to continue and create lasting impact. Evidence of how it can be sustained or built upon.

  • Describe how the technology is maintained and its effectiveness sustained over time.
  • Explain how it supports long-term productivity and system sustainability.
